System Watcher
The System Watcher component receives data on the actions of applications on your computer and provides this information to other protection components to improve their performance. The System Watcher component uses applications' Behavior Stream Signatures (BSS). If application activity matches a behavior stream signature, the Kaspersky application performs the selected response action. The Kaspersky application functionality based on behavior stream signatures provides proactive defense for the computer.
By default, System Watcher is enabled and runs in the mode recommended by Kaspersky experts. You can disable System Watcher if necessary.
- In the menu bar, click the application icon and choose Settings.
The application settings window opens.
- On the Advanced tab, in the System Watcher section, select or deselect the Enable System Watcher checkbox.
- If the Enable System Watcher checkbox is selected, select one of the following actions to be performed when malware activity is detected:
- Terminate malware processes automatically
If this option is selected, the Kaspersky application terminates the application when detecting malicious activity.
- Delete detected malicious objects
If this option is selected, when detecting malicious activity the Kaspersky application deletes the executable file of the malicious application and creates a backup copy of the file in Backup.
- Prompt for action
If this option is selected, then when malware activity is detected, the Kaspersky application displays a notification window with information about the malicious object and prompts the user to choose the action to be taken by the Kaspersky application. The available actions may vary depending on the status of the object.
- Terminate malware processes automatically
As a result, if System Watcher is enabled, the Kaspersky application uses behavior stream signatures to analyze applications' activity in the operating system.
Important: We do not recommend to disable System Watcher unless absolutely necessary because doing so will reduce the effectiveness of protection components. To detect threats, the protection components may request data collected by the System Watcher component.
